A downtown evening that stands on its own
Because Ka Moana runs entirely in the late afternoon and evening on the harbour, it slots into a Honolulu trip without reshaping a whole day around it — there's no daytime component to plan for, unlike the PCC's full-day package. That makes it an easy add to a trip already based in or near Waikiki. That flexibility is one of the quieter advantages of a downtown, rather than resort-corridor, luau — it doesn't compete with a single stretch of coastline for the rest of the day's plans.
Pairing it with Aloha Tower Marketplace by day
Since the luau runs on the grounds of an existing waterfront marketplace, arriving an hour or two before check-in to browse its shops and restaurants, or simply walk the harbour promenade, turns the trip out there into part of the day rather than a single-purpose evening errand. Guests staying at a Waikiki resort with an evening shuttle already booked for the drive out should still budget the walk from the marketplace's car park or drop-off point, which is longer than a resort valet stand. A second, different Oahu luau

Waikiki and Diamond Head on a separate day

Combining Ka Moana with a Pearl Harbor morning works especially well for visitors on a tight schedule, since neither commitment runs particularly late and both sit closer to downtown than to the resort strip. Both commitments also sit on the same side of the island, which keeps a single day's driving to a minimum rather than criss-crossing Honolulu twice before dinner.
Pearl Harbor, on yet another day
Pearl Harbor's memorials sit closer to downtown than Waikiki does, which makes a Pearl Harbor morning easier to pair with a Ka Moana evening than with a west-side or north-shore commitment — still worth its own day rather than rushing both in one, given how much of a Pearl Harbor visit runs on fixed ferry timings. First-time visitors planning their own itinerary from scratch, rather than working from a fixed tour package, often find it easier to lock in the luau date first and build sightseeing days around the gap nights.
Building a realistic week
Spread across a first Honolulu trip, one downtown evening for Ka Moana, a separate day for Waikiki and Diamond Head, and a third for either Pearl Harbor or a second luau, hits most of what a first-time visitor is after without crossing the island back and forth. Give the harbour evening its own unhurried slot rather than squeezing it into an already packed day — that's the simplest way to actually enjoy it. Whatever the mix, treating the luau as a single booking worth its own evening, not one more stop on a long day, is what tends to make it feel unrushed. Trying to cram every option here into one trip usually means rushing through all of them; choosing two or three on purpose leaves a sharper memory of each.
